- The use of any staple other than a Markwell brand product voids any warranty, express or implied. Repairs or parts replacement by anyone other than Markwell, or authorized distributors, may reduce operating efficiency.
- DO NOT PLACE FINGER/S BETWEEN STAPLE OUTLET AND CLINCHER.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
- Use only Markwell brand P3 or L3 type staples (sold in blue staple boxes) in the MPL3 Series, the Blue Pliers.
- Use only Markwell brand P3 type staples (sold in blue staple boxes) in the MP3 Series, the Blue Pliers.
- Use only Markwell brand P4 type staples (sold in gray staple boxes) in the MP4 Series, the Gray Pliers.
The above staples are all specifically designed to function correctly in their respective Markwell brand pliers. The pliers are not designed for use with any other staple, as jamming and malfunction may occur.
LOADING THE PLIER:
Lift and pull back the magazine sliding cover as far as it will go. See Figure 1. Insert full stick of staples through opening in top of handle, rear end of staples first. See Figure 2. Let the front end of staple stick drop naturally into staple magazine. Push cover back all the way until you hear a click, which will indicate that the cover is correctly seated.
CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LOAD MULTIPLE SHORT SECTIONS OF STAPLES.
Remove all staples from magazine. Remove magazine cover spring by gripping visible edge with a plier, unhooking from retaining pin in handle, and withdrawing through staple loading opening. Unhook magazine sliding cover from pusher and withdraw through rear. Unhook operating lever. Through rear of handle, depress pusher spring end plug, and keeping depressed, withdraw driver arm pivot pin.
Holding other hand over end of plier, CAREFULLY RELEASE PUSHER SPRING, preventing it from shooting out and being lost. The plier will now come apart completely. The flat elevating spring can be removed from the handle assembly, using a plier, and the operating lever pivot pin removed, for complete disassembly.
Assemble the handle assembly first, by matching the clincher arm with the operating lever, insert the correct pivot pin and push the elevating spring on from the rear, as indicated overleaf.
Insert the staple driver correctly into the driver channel at the front of the magazine, with chamfered bottom edge TOWARD staples and facing the clincher. Place magazine with driver into driver arm assembly, carefully fitting the hole in driver over the locating pin. Then holding the assembled parts upright, with the nose downward, or resting on a surface, align the clincher arm assembly so that the driver arm pivot pin can be inserted. Push pivot pin in only far enough to locate all three parts on one side, then insert staple pusher, followed by the pusher spring. It will be easier to compress the spring into the magazine by using a small screwdriver to draw it down in small increments through the staple loading channel.
As soon as the spring and end plug are past the pivot pin, push the pin all the way through, until it is locked in position by the pusher spring plug. At this stage, ensure that all parts operate freely, checking that the driver has not slipped off its loading pin. Now, insert the magazine sliding cover through the rear and hook over the projecting pusher tab. Slide the slotted magazine cover spring through the staple loading opening until locked onto its locating hook.
